Hard water is hard on water heaters
Coachella Valley water carries a lot of dissolved minerals. In a tank heater they settle to the bottom as sediment, which is what makes that popping sound and slowly cuts efficiency. In a tankless heater they build up as scale on the heat exchanger. Flushing a tank or descaling a tankless unit on a regular schedule keeps either type working longer, and a water softener or filtration system slows the build-up in the first place.
Tank or tankless?
A tank heater costs less up front and is simple to replace. A tankless heater heats water as you use it, takes up less space and doesn’t run out partway through a shower, but it costs more to install and may need a larger gas line or new venting. We’ll look at your home, your hot water use and what’s installed now, and tell you which makes sense.
